PETALING JAYA: A company linked to Genting Group chairman and CEO Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay was a surprise seventh bidder to submit a tender for a casino concession licence in Macau.
Lim, who is Malaysia’s ninth richest man, is relentless in clinching a licence to operate in the world’s biggest gaming hub.
Via GMM Ltd, Lim is said to have bidded for the casino concession under the retender process.,
The other bidders are Wynn Resorts (Macau), Venetian Macau, Melco Resorts (Macau), MGM Grand Paradise, Galaxy Casino and SJM Resorts, according to an online portal.
A maximum of six companies will be awarded 10-year gaming concessions, with the successful bidders operating from Jan 1, 2023.
The current concession period will end on Dec 31.
An online portal reported a representative from GMM confirming its association with the Genting Group and expressing confidence due to its global presence.
Genting operates the Resorts World Las Vegas and is majority owner in both Genting Malaysia Bhd – the operator of Resorts World Genting, and Genting Singapore which is the operator of Resorts World Sentosa.
